Computer Sound System

A computer sound system offers fantastic surround sound and audio for music, movies, and gaming.

A computer sound system is essential if you really want to get the most out of your computer time.  As PCs and Macs have evolved, there is a greater emphasis on media and sound.  You’re almost guaranteed to use your computer for a variety of different media types at some point.  Whether it be downloading mp3s, or watching movies and television shows online.  In order to really enjoy this experience in the same way that you would your normal television viewing, you’ll need some form of computer sound system.

The most important thing to decide is your budget concerns.  If you want the absolute best, you’ll probably want a full computer sound system that features surround sound and a subwoofer.  Usually this will entail two tower speakers for the front of your computer, two surround speakers situated behind you, and a subwoofer off to the side.  The tower speakers are responsible for providing the brunt of your sound, and also create the most rich experience.  Surround speakers help to completely envelop your position with rich sounds, making you feel a part of the action.  The subwoofer is great for bass, so that you really feel the music, or the explosions if you’re playing a videogame.

The only problem with this sort of setup, is that it’s very expensive.  On average, tower computer sound system speakers cost around $200 to upwards of $1,000 for a good pair.  That’s plus the cost of surround sound which is also in the $200 range, and a subwoofer which can be even more expensive.  All in all, a maximum quality computer sound system like this should be seen as an investment.  Only go all out if you spend a lot of time on your computer, otherwise you won’t be happy with the amount of money that you’ve paid.

If this sounds excessive to you, and you’ve got no problem going with the basics for your computer use, you’ll want a more standard computer sound system.  Usually this means purchasing a set of desktop speakers.  Usually they come in a pair, and feature a left and right speaker to provide full stereo sound.  They can be placed on your desktop, along either side of your monitor, or even mounted to the monitor itself.  These are a much more economical alternative, and make sense if you don’t use your computer for media all the time.  Typically basic speakers only cost around $30-$40, which is much more reasonable than a full sound system.

After you’ve decided the type of speakers you’d prefer, there are a variety of ways in which you can purchase them.  For the basic computer sound system, you can go to almost any department store that offers computer supplies, and you’ll find a few satisfactory options.  For a more complicated computer sound system, you’ll probably want to buy off the internet to increase your selection, and keep costs down.  Websites like Buy.com allow you to compare prices on top quality speakers from a variety of stores.  This way you can purchase a fantastic system, without sacrificing more of your wallet than you would like.
